Cymbal...
A thinner version of the modern day dinner plate. You bash them against one another and the sound they make is like when everything that is in your saucepan cupboard falls out onto the floor. They are made of thin metal.
Drum...
Made from a hollow tree trunk with clay or metal and the skin of a water animal. Another name for it was a 'tambour'. Played with sticks. The sound it makes is like a thump.
Tambourine...
A hollow tree trunk with little silver metal plates all around it except for one spot which is the handle (where you hold it). To play it you bang it on your leg or against your other hand and get a jingly sort of a sound. Originally it was played by women only.
Triangle...
A piece of metal bent into the shape of a triangle- hence the name. You attach it to a string or rubber band and hit it with the small metal stick. Introduced in the 14th century. The sound it makes is like a little ding.
